H3ritage Studios is an international program set up by (A)WAKE for electronic music artists with West Asian and North African (WANA) cultural backgrounds. Through group workshops and one-on-one studio sessions, we provide space and support to explore musical cultural heritage and its development within a digital world.
Experimentation and genre crossovers are welcomed, categorized practices and cultural gatekeeping are challenged and the exploration of cultural heritage in a digital age is celebrated.
Over a 7-week period, workshops are offered by DJ and music producer Cheb Runner, visual artist Salim Bayri and visual and sound artist Mika Oki. The program includes individual studio sessions in a fully-equipped audio studio, and concludes with a collective presentation night.
* WANA (West Asia and North Africa) countries include: Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine and its Occupied Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara and Yemen.
The upcoming workshop program in Rotterdam is supported by the Municipality of Rotterdam.
