	H3ritage Studios is an international program set up by (A)WAKE for electronic music artists with West Asian and North African (WANA) cultural backgrounds. Through group workshops and one-on-one studio sessions, we provide space and support to explore musical cultural heritage and its development within a digital world.

Experimentation and genre crossovers are welcomed, categorized practices and cultural gatekeeping are challenged and the exploration of cultural heritage in a digital age is celebrated.
Over a 7-week period, workshops are offered by DJ and music producer Cheb Runner, visual artist Salim Bayri and visual and sound artist Mika Oki. The program includes individual studio sessions in a fully-equipped audio studio, and concludes with a collective presentation night.&#38;nbsp;
* WANA (West Asia and North Africa) countries include: Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine and its Occupied Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara and Yemen.
The upcoming workshop program in Rotterdam is supported by the Municipality of Rotterdam.

	We are thrilled to announce the 5 selected artists who will participate in our 7-week workshop program that starts in October. Congratulations Celine Bereyakan,&#38;nbsp;Esmail Bnaoe,&#38;nbsp;Başak Kırıcı,&#38;nbsp;Q.A.Q and DJ Shahmaran!

Computer Image Crafting (CIC) with Salim Bayri

Computer image crafting (CIC) is a slightly different approach to CGI (computer generated imagery) because it is about having a more panoramic view that goes beyond using a computer to make an image. Mixing high tech software all the way to pen and paper, we will look at the many ways an image can be made to fit your purpose. Moving, still, interactive, 2D or 3D. We can use Photoshop, Blender, Substance Painter, Premiere, Touchdesigner, mobile apps like Capcut and Picsart, Text to image generation tools like Dall-e, Chinese ink, 3D scanning and even old clunky obsolete software like Microsoft Paint. I will adapt and guide you in the infinite ways a moving or still image can be made always with a focus on doing it in the easiest and most energy efficient way possible. In addition to one 3-hour practical workshop, Salim Bayri will be supporting the selected artists during two one-on-one studio sessions. Our (A)WAKE studio offers us a responsible, respectful, and communal environment to listen together, and learn and practice with each other.
Biography:

Salim Bayri is a multimedia visual artist and polyglot whose practice spans sculpture, performance, drawing, coding, tech, and the virtual realm. Across his work, the slipperiness of linguistic, plastic and digital representations takes a central role. By adding tongues and making words strike each other in humorous, disorienting and often absurd ways, he hopes to find the particle-x in languages and thereby answer questions related to alienation and cultural violence. In keeping this hope alive, Bayri imagines a decolonial approach that lingers in the poetic possibilities of the happy accident, the unexpected crack, the unreachable dream. Bayri is half of the music duo BAZOGA and he is represented by Galerie van Gelder in Amsterdam, but he can often be found hanging out in obsolete online chat rooms where diasporas gather, and where strangeness, blasphemy, and “pulling each other’s legs” are common practices.

Celine Bereyakan (Dicle Gülşahin) is a songwriter, producer, and DJ based in Rotterdam making covers and lo-fi beats sampled from Turkish pop music, and composing post-punk songs, all in DIY aesthetics. Her sets consist of the songs from her youth, widely regarded as ‘guilty pleasure’. While nostalgia is an essential dimension of her music; the true core of her practice relies on the musical quality of early samples of Turkish pop that features the authentic sound of the geography.Instagram:&#38;nbsp;@celinebereyakan“During H3ritage Studios program, I’d like to explore the collage as a form of commemoration and musical interpretation, by repurposing samples from popular culture elements from Turkey and around. As a DIY-musician lacking proper musical education, I see the program’s offerings as a great opportunity to improve my vision and skills while learning from the experts and exchanging muses with participating fellows.”

Audio/Visual play Mika Oki

The multidisciplinary artist Mika Oki invites you to have a look in the audiovisual world. She will bring a starter pack to use the audio-visual tool Resolume Arena. A software with an infinite possibility to mix and match your visuals quickly, easily and play it like an instrument. You’ll learn how to blend video, map on any type of surface (from complex geometrical structures or whole buildings) with one, two or more projectors. Mika Oki will be visiting us from Brussels at our (A)WAKE studio, which offers us a responsible, respectful, and communal environment to listen together, and learn and practice with each other.
Biography:

Like a sculptor who knows that the slightest miscalculated move of a chisel could damage the totality of an artwork, Mika Oki’s selections elude great mastery and undeniable preparation. Doing wonders in her many radio shows, it’s difficult to realise her taste in rumbles and undeniable love for sounds from across the Channel (drum and bass, UK garage, 2-step, grime...) before seeing her on the dancefloor. Never hesitating to alternate a 90s dance anthem with an obscure juke track, she also manages to gather seemingly disparate and conflicting elements together, creating an incredible coherence. Percussive but generous, erudite yet uninhibited, she pieces together unique mixes that never cease to surprise. Apart from being a DJ, Mika Oki is a visual artist working on A/V pieces that unsettle our senses. In September 2020 she launched LYL radio’s antenna in Brussels.

		<description>&#38;lt; (A)WAKE

(A)WAKE provides a space for the in-between voices with multiple cultural backgrounds. We develop cultural programs that do justice to the complexity of our current socio-political context and to the perspectives of minorities who have been overlooked and/or tokenized by mainstream institutions. In a world dominated by media and populism, we move freely between the domains of contemporary art and politics. We believe deeply in the captivating power of aesthetics and design, and connect this with voices of counterculture to reach a wide and diverse audience. The direction of (A)WAKE is driven by questioning the emancipatory potential of the digital world in favor of equal access and mutual cultural exchange between WANA (West Asia and North Africa) and West Europe. Through the focus on these two regions which we personally find ourselves in, we aim towards creative and critical approaches which challenge the greater North-South power dynamics through art and digital culture.
